12/3/15
There hasn’t been a lot to report. The writing center runs pretty smooth and it seems to be set up really well. Gabby recently asked the front desk people to pick something specific to take charge of like organizing the front desk or taking care of one of the social media pages. I chose the twitter page. I think it’s a good idea to try and promote the WC on social media, but no one knows about them. I told my friends that I was doing the Twitter page for the WC and no one even knew that we had a Twitter or a Facebook or a Tumblr. Social media is a great way to get information out…but it doesn’t do anything if no one knows about it.

There isn't a lot to critique about the Writing Center. I really like how it's set up and it seems to work really well. This may be a slightly biased comment, but now that there are people at the front desk who make the appointments, it seems to run a little smoother and the tutors are letting us make the appointments now so there aren't as many confusions. When I first started working here, there were a lot of appointments that wouldn't be put in correctly and it created a lot of confusion. Now, the front desk people are making the majority of the appointments and there's less confusion. The only struggle between the front desk people is figuring out if a task has been complete or if it still needs to be done. Some times I come in and there's a note saying to do something but I don't know if it's been done yet because it's not addressed to anyone specific. I try to leave a note for Morgan if I wasn't able to finish something, but I'm also not sure when she works.

Today was pretty busy. There were a lot of people coming for walk-in appointments and writing labs.
I might have mentioned this before, but a lot of the tutors like to hang out in the writing center even when they're not working. It's fun being there and it make the writing center seem so much more welcoming when everybody is talking and enjoying themselves.

Today I came in and there was an email from a teacher who wanted to know if her high school student could come in to the writing center. I responded and told her how to schedule an appointment and where the writing center is. It's really cool that we offer tutoring sessions to people who don't go to Marian. We're able to help more people that way.

10/14/15
Today was pretty busy. One of the humanities courses has a paper due soon because all the appointments have been for the same assignment. Seems like all the tutors have taken that course, so that was cool because they were able to give informed advice.

10/13/15
Today has been really quiet. No one even came in for the first hour I was here. It seems like there is either only 1-2 clients or 100, there's rarely an in between. I think that's one of the hard things about scheduling the tutors because it's hard to figure out when the flood of people will come.

10/12/15
Writing tutorials were in the library all day today, so it was pretty quiet down here. Mark showed me how to do a couple things and Antonio worked with a client, but all other clients went to the library.
I think it's a good idea to get the writing center out so people know about it, but it was also confusing for people who came down here wanting to work with a tutor. I didn't know about it until last night and it didn't seem like a lot of other people knew about it either.
On a side note, it's really cool to listen to Antonio work with people. Having someone specifically work with Spanish students is a great idea and it seems to make a big difference. Some of the clients even have whole conversations in Spanish with him. I took Spanish in high school and being able to converse and work with someone other than the teacher makes a big difference.

10/8/15
(I did not write a post for 10/7/15)
Not very many people came in today so we spent most of the time talking. Michael was there for a little bit even though he wasn't working. Hannah C. had said how a lot of her clients don't show up so Hannah S. decided that we should make Michael track them down and intimidate them with his Russian accent. So then Michael did his best impression of intimidating clients with his accent. (he wasn't very intimidating). We also talked about correcting people's grammar in emails and how the emails should be professional. That was pretty much it.

10/6/5
Today the schedule was filled almost the whole time. It was pretty quiet because the tutors were working with their clients instead of talking to each other. I spent the time moving appointments around, scheduling new appointments, printing a couple things out, and checking the email.
10/5/15
I’m getting the hang of this. Today I made a flyer about the Student Success Seminar, made a couple of appointments, answered emails, and completed miscellaneous tasks.
9/24/15, 9/28/15-10/1/15
I forgot to make entries for these days...oops
Summary:
I survived my first 2 weeks! Actually, surviving isn't the best word for it because I am really enjoying working here. Even though I am the new person, I don't feel like it. I'm getting the hang of my job and everyone has been really nice to me. I answered the phone for the first time (which was terrifying, but it all worked out) and I created a flyer and a schedule.
Have I mentioned how much I enjoy the people here? Everyone is super nice. A lot of the tutors will come down here and just hang out even if they're not on the clock. Each person is unique and it's a lot of fun to watch everyone interact with each other.

Today was a lot of fun. Mark explained the email a little better and he tried to show me how the voicemail works, but the sound was not working. I made a couple appointments and had to look up a report for another student, so I’m starting to get the hang of it. I also got to put together bags for a writing conference that is this weekend.
Everyone has been really nice to me. They are very patient with me as I ask silly questions and they understand when I make mistakes. The majority of the time everyone is very light hearted and talkative which makes it a lot more fun to work here.
9/22/15
My second day went well. I met a couple more of the tutors and we talked a little, but I didn’t really do much because we weren’t busy. Only one student came in, so I ended up doing homework almost the whole time.
9/21/15
Today was my first day working at the writing center. I walked in and they were all very welcoming and Mark Latta introduced me to everyone. He added me into their system and Michael taught me how to schedule appointments and check the email. It was a little overwhelming at first, but I think it's going to be fun working here. Everyone has been really nice to me and the job itself seems pretty easy.
